    TEENAGE MONSTERS 1976-2020:
just a collection of unfolk antiques and sci-fi curios (post-mortem).

01: "UNFOLK ROOTS: THE KHENE SUITE" [1976-77]
Recorded by Marco Pompilio & Alessandro Monti.
Khaen, classical guitar, glockenspiel, percussion, final piano note & vocals: AM - electric guitar, pedals & noise amp: Sandro Masi.
Vintage stuff taken from "Du Globe" (1976) & "Washers" (1977) cassettes by Fungus and recorded 30 years before the actual release of the 1st Unfolk CD (2006), these pieces were an unconscious preview of the future project. In the mid-70s I received the "khene" as a present from a schoolmate: it was a bamboo mouth organ from Laos with a nice sound and wooden fragrance; I didn't know how to use it correctly at the time and we all thought it was an African instrument! These excerpts were recorded when I was at high school (16 & 17 year old) with a primitive equipment which gave the illusion of overdubbing, using 2 stereo cassette recorders simultaneously: the first one (my portable Superscope with built-in mics) played a basic track while I did a second part live to Marco's Philips recorder with 2 real mics. The 4-track cassette machines weren't available at the time, but the sound quality and stereo effect are still surprisingly good. The original cassettes included lots of crazy teenage experiments, surreal rap, monster tunes and early guitar inventions by Masi: they were carefully stored by Alieno DeBootes for more than 40 years and recently digitalized by the Archivist himself.
The title of the "Teenage Monsters" album was inspired by this epic track.

    02: "LOST AFTERNOON SESSION" [2008]
    Recorded at Madriema studio.
Electronic ambience, guitar: Massimiliano Lupo - sitar: Emanuele Witsch Barberio - Ovation guitar: Adriano Clera - electric mandolin & bass: AM.
Taken from an unforgettable long session with Madriema, same source as "Black Tar Lagoon" & "Tutte le cose..." on "The Venetian Book Of The Dead" CD; I edited a single piece from 2 sections but it remained unreleased until now.
In loving memory of Massimiliano Lupo.

    03: "SECULAR KOSMISCH FOLK - acoustic" [2007]
Recorded at Bienixarte (later Pro arte) studio Mestre-VE by Riccardo De Zorzi and at Marco's studio, Turin.
Acoustic mandolin: AM - violin drone: Marco Giaccaria - synth: Riccardo De Zorzi.
When I returned from Crete I wrote a piece of music inspired by the Greek and Balkan scales: this is the 1st acoustic take recorded during the "Unfolk 2" sessions : the 2nd electric take was included on the double "Unfolk + Live Book" remaster.

    >>><<<

    04: "SUNSHINE PLAYGROUND" [2005]
Recorded at Exit studio, Mestre-VE by Bebo Baldan.
Acoustic mandolin, acoustic guitar & slide guitar: AM - Drums: Bebo.
This is the original take of "Almanacco Del Giorno Prima" (from the "Unfolk Alessandro Monti" CD), the unusual guitar chords were edited out the final version and a violin part was added.

    >>><<<

    05: "JAZZ #1" [2019]
Recorded by Elisabetta Montino on her Matrix workstation.
    Guitar & electric piano: AM.
One of the many demos recorded prior to "File Under Oblivion", scattered ideas never intended for the final album.

    >>><<<

    06: "SPIRITDZOE PART 6 - extended mix" [2013]
Recorded by David Mora at his home studio.
Nord synth & samples: AM - programming: Camomatic.
Partially included on spiritDzoe with a mandolin part later added at Bienixarte. I sampled fragments of some orchestral records played on my Rega turntable and quickly composed the track on the same key. Warning: this is not average Balearic stuff but a foggy lagoon serenade for Teenage Monsters.

    >>><<<

    07: "QUAD JAM - edit" [2016]
Recorded at Quad studios, Leicester by Jim Tetlow and remixed by Bebo Baldan & AM at Exit studio, Mestre-VE.
Bass: Kevin Hewick - keyboards & theremin: Chris Conway - synthesizer: JimTetlow - drums/brushes: Mark Haynes - kalimba: AM.
This nice piece was improvised during the "Intuitive Maps" sessions; it appears here in a coincise extract.

    >>><<<

    08: "UNFOCUSED MEDLEY" [2016]
Recorded at Quad studios, Leicester by Jim Tetlow.
Guitar & microkorg: Kevin Hewick - synthesizer & cajón: JimTetlow - bass: AM - drums: Mark Haynes.
Medley created by AM using rough mixes of the abandoned "Unfolk-Unfocused" project.
In loving memory of Ken Hewick.

    09: "CHURCH OF DUB" [2017]
Basic tracks recorded at Quad studios, Leicester by Jim Tetlow and remixed by Bebo Baldan at Exit, Mestre-VE; guitar overdub recorded direct to a Matrix workstation by Betty Montino at her home studio in Mira-VE, (Italy).
Guitars: Kevin Hewick & AM - synthesizers: Jim Tetlow - bass: AM - drums: Misterlee (Lee Allatson).
Same multitrack source of the "Intuitive Maps" version. In 2017 [based on "Church Of Anthrax", written by John Cale & Terry Riley, published by Warner Bros Music 1970, arranged by the Unfolk Collective: see "Intuitive Maps" CD full credits of the officially released version].

    >>><<<

    10: "KORGI-IGROK" [2016]
Recorded at Quad studios, Leicester by Jim Tetlow.
Microkorg: Kevin Hewick - synthesizer: JimTetlow - bass: AM.
The edited improv and its reverse with Kevin on Microkorg, the smallest of keyboards but with unique possibilities [reworked in 2021 for this compilation].

    >>><<<

    11: "FADING LIGHTS / AD LIB" [2016]
Recorded at Quad studios, Leicester by Jim Tetlow.
Microkorg: Kevin Hewick - synthesizer: JimTetlow - bass: AM - percussion: Misterlee.
An edited avant-improv from the "Intuitive Maps" sessions [reworked in 2021 for this compilation].

    12: "ALPHA" demo #2 - full version [2016]
Recorded live by Elisabetta Montino on her Matrix workstation.
vocals & shell: Elisabetta Montino - telecaster & analog delay: AM.
Working title: "Shell Song": an outtake from "Intuitive Maps" we often played live at the end of our duo set. The opening section (from demo #1) was later used on "Alpha / Black Hole / Omega" from the double Cd "File Under Oblivion" (MP& Records). This is the full version with beautiful vocal improvisations by Betty.

    >>><<<

    13: "DECEMBER 13, 1999" [1999]
Home recording. Cascade synthesizers: Camomatic - Distorted bass guitar through Fender amp: Alessandro Monti.
The synth loop was later used on "Time Capsule 1999: Skybus To Oblivion" from the double Cd "File Under Oblivion", a different version with flutes (MP& Records)

All music arranged by the Unfolk Collective & produced by Alessandro Monti (AM) through the years.
Special thanks to all the musicians involved!
